Membership in the Collaborative

The Genesee County Great Start Collaborative is open to any member of the community. The meetings provide a review of the work of the collaborative as well as gather input from participants on the direction of collaborative activities. Presentations from members, or reports from work groups, are provided to inform and advance the community conversations to build the infrastructure of the early childhood system. Current Great Start Collaborative member organizations and initiatives include:

Great Start Parent Coalition

The Great Start Parent Coalition is a grass roots organization which represents the voice of the family, the child, and their community to the collaborative. Its mission is to assure a coordinated system of community resources and support to help all Genesee County families provide a great start for their children from pre-birth to age five.

The Early Childhood Investment Corporation

The Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC) was created in August of 2005 to ensure that every young child in Michigan has a great start and arrives at the kindergarten door healthy and ready to succeed in school, with parents who are committed to educational achievement.

The ECIC is uniquely positioned as a public corporation to bring state and local leaders together on behalf of a better life for Michigan's youngest learners and their families.

The Michigan Sandbox Party is a nonpartisan movement for Michigan residents who recognize the need to make sure infants, toddlers, and other children are healthy, strong, and ready to learn when they arrive at the kindergarten door.

Priority Children is a diverse coalition of individuals and organizations, including volunteers from business, civic affairs, charitable organizations, education, the faith community, government, and health and human services. The coalition's goal is to improve the quality of life for children and families in Genesee County through assessment, awareness, advocacy, and action.

Smart Start North Carolina brings together all the people involved in a young child's life - families, teachers, doctors, caregivers, social workers, and many others - to ensure every child has all they need for healthy growth and development.

The BUILD Initiative works to support early childhood systems development in all states. The initiative focuses primarily on helping state leaders create and sustain comprehensive statewide systems change, and also supports their efforts to develop effective local-level approaches to early childhood system building.
